A period villa with a mysterious name and a special destiny...

"Trunka Lunka", a name that makes you think perhaps of Nordic legends, Finnish sagas, Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung.

Many have wondered what’s behind this strange name: there are those who say a faery queen, others who say ancient German warlords; some say the Vikings, and still others say it’s named after the Langa region of Piedmont. There are newspapers who say the name goes back to a Hungarian countess who sold her villa to be turned into a hotel with the sole proviso that it maintained the name "Trunka Lunka" – which means ‘new moon’ in Hungarian.

But actually, the name of this enchanting place derives from a charming chapter of a more modest family history. Many years ago a father chose a nickname for his daughter Teresa. She was very tall and skinny for her age, so he affectionately called her "Teresuccia Long" or "Teresuccia Lunca" which in time became ‘Trunka Lunka’. It was that family’s passion for construction that led to the building of the villa and it was subsequently acquired by another family to be turned into a hotel. Enchanted by this sweet family story, they decided to keep the name and called the hotel ‘Trunka Lunka’.

It is such little family secrets that have helped create this charming property. Full of creature comforts and steeped in tradition, the hotel pampers its guests making them feel at home, helping even the oldest among them sense a little of the mystery of the northern warriors. No matter how old you are, you can’t fail to be enchanted by this magical place...
